Yassmin Abdel-Magied | President & Chairperson
Yassmin is the sole remaining founding member of Youth Without Borders, having conceived the idea behind the organisation in 2007. In recognition of those early efforts, she was Young Queenslander of the Year as a in 2010. Yassmin has just completed a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) at the University of Queensland.
Anton Ilchenko | Treasurer and General Finance Wizard
Anton Ilchenko was appointed as a Treasurer for Youth Without Borders in January 2012. As a recent graduate in Finance and Accounting, Anton is responsible for running the treasury of the organisationand managing the financial risks.
Bianca Goebel | General Member
In 2011, during her fourth year of study Bianca was approached by Youth Without Borders president Yassmin Abdel Magied to take part in bringing to life the concept of an engineering camp that would easily accessible to those demographics of high schools who normally wouldn’t be able to attending existing engineering/science camps and who also, statistically, often do not make it to tertiary education. Since being part of the team that successfully developed and executed the first ‘Spark Engineering Camp’, she has continued to be heavily involved in the planning and execution of the camp each year thereafter.
Kaela Armitage | General Member
Kaela Armitage is a second year student in the Bachelor of Pharmacy at the University of Queensland. After being inspired by a keynote address given by YWB President Yassmin-Abdel-Magied in late 2011, Kaela proceeded to ask politely if Yassmin would consent to be interviewed for her Year 12 English assignment. Fortunately, the answer was yes and from learning more about Youth Without Borders itself and the wonderful people involved with it, Kaela has been involved ever since. Some of the projects she has been a part of are the Masterchef Meets the Streets initiative in 2012, and the ENABLE Schools Leadership Summit in 2013 and ongoing partnership this year.
Avrithi Misthry | General Member
Avrithi joined YWB in 2009 and was involved in a few YWB projects through the years including the Romero School holiday programme for refugee minors as well as the Spark Engineering Camp since 2011. Avrithi studies a dual major in chemical and biological engineering at the University of Queensland. In her spare time she enjoys socializing, volunteering, being outdoors and reading.
