Youth Without Borders had the Spark Engineering Camp mentor selections this weekend.

69 amazing applications for 25 positions..

It was a resounding success and all the judges and selectors were extremely impressed by the caliber of the applicants.

We are so very proud of the mentors selected and all of those who took the time to apply and be a part of one of Youth Without Borders’ amazing programs.

Congratulations to all the mentors who have been selected!  Welcome to the Youth Without Borders family and we look forward to seeing Spark 2013 roll out!

World Refugee Day events grow bigger and better every year with 2013 set to draw more interest from the Brisbane community.

Last years’ events were hugely successful, showcasing and celebrating the wealth of talent and diversity within refugee communities in Brisbane through delicious food,

vibrant performances, competitive sport, stalls and workshops. We would like to thank the participants from last years’ year’s events, for it was your participation,

eagerness and vibrancy that led to such a successful and exciting festival. The World Refugee Day Community Festival is a must for all families wanting to experience

the vibrant life of diverse cultures through a wide variety of food, cooking demonstrations, song, dance and entertainment, fashion show, kids activities, amusement rides,

volleyball and soccer.

From February 27 to 28, the 5^th Gobal Forum of the Alliance of Civilizations of the United Nations, preceded by a Youth Event on February 26 will take place in Vienna, Austria.

More than 1000 political leaders and civil society representatives will assemble in Vienna to discuss the topic of “Responsible Leadership in Diversity and Dialogue”.

On this occasion, a photo exhibition at the conference venue will visually display different perspectives on the topics of the conference.

We invite you to submit your entry in one of the following three categories:

§  Perspectives on Religious Pluralism

§  Freedom of the Media Matters!

§  A new Narrative on Diversity

The best photos will be displayed at the conference venue as well as on the homepage of the UNAOC Global Forum 2013. The best 5 photos will be printed on postcards and distributed among the participants of the Global Forum. The best 3 photos will be awarded with a LOMO CAMERA. The best photo will be awarded with 200 €.

CONDITIONS:

- You are under the age of 35.

- Photographs must be in digital format and submitted as electronic attachments via e-mail atyoutheventvienna@iz.or.at.

- Only one photo can be submitted per person.

- All submissions must include the photographer’s name, date of birth and email address; as well as a short explanation of the photograph (no more than 10 sentences).

- Submitted photo files must be minimum 1MB, maximum 5MB; 2000x2000pixels (with minimum 150 DPI).

- The selected finalists will be notified by e-mail. Entries not selected will not be notified!

- Deadline for submissions is February 17, 2013.

Panellists of returned volunteers will share their experiences and stories, give advice about applying and tell attendees what to expect if successful. There will also be an opportunity to speak with returned volunteers one-on-one about their experiences.

The AYAD Forum, held on Tuesday 9 April, is part of National Youth Week which celebrates and recognises the value of all young Australians by giving them an opportunity to express their ideas and opinions.

We will hear from four speakers and then attendees will have the opportunity to network. The event is being held in Melbourne and is attended by around 200 people interested in volunteering, returned volunteers and Australian Partner Orgnaisations (APOs).

Six APOs will also have the opportunity to exhibit at the event and promote their involvement in the program and the work they are doing in this area.

New York, NY (January 23, 2013)– The United Nations Alliance of Civilizations ( UNAOC) and the International Organization for Migration ( IOM) again invite the world’s youth to submit original and creative videos focusing on PLURAL+ themes: migration, diversity and social inclusion.

Recognizing youth as powerful agents of social change in a world often characterized by intolerance, and cultural and religious divisions, PLURAL+ invites youth to address key challenges related to migrant integration, inclusiveness, identity, diversity, human rights and social cohesiveness, both at local and global levels. Young people up to 25 years old are invited to submit short videos of five minutes maximum in length.

Michele Klein-Solomon, IOM Permanent Observer to the United Nations, said, “PLURAL+ videos touch very sensitive issues in a very real way. They look at the realities that people are facing. We like to see young people expressing their profound ideas in a manner that allows the opening of a dialogue.”

Jordi Torrent, UNAOC Project Manager, Media and Information Literacy, added: “PLURAL+ videos fit very well in this very relevant conversation: how to build more inclusive societies where we can all live together in harmony.”

PLURAL+ supports young people’s expression of their opinions by providing them with a variety of media platforms and distribution networks, including broadcasts, video festivals, conferences and events around the world. PLURAL+ also reinforces the firm belief of IOM and UNAOC that youth are powerful and creative agents of social change.

A prestigious international jury will select three winners in each age categories (9-12, 13-17, and 18-25). All the winners will be invited to New York, all travel expenses paid, to present their work at the PLURAL + 2013 Awards Ceremony at the Paley Center for Media in December 2013.

Mariana Araujo, a member of the PLURAL+ 2012 international jury commented, “For me PLURAL+ is the best link between intercultural dialogue and intergenerational justice. I can’t imagine a better way to understand the other but through their own eyes and listen with their ears. With these videos I can internalize their emotions and realities through their stories.”

PLURAL+ 2013 deadline for video submission is 30 June, 2013.
